COLONIA SANT JORDI
Platja d’es Port
Located next to Colónia Sant Jordi, it has developed from being a salt work, a fishermen’s refuge or meeting place for smugglers, to become since 1964, one of the main tourist, holiday and residential area of the island of Mallorca .
The name of this beach is given by its location next to the natural port of Colónia de Sant Jordi. This port facility was already used by Phoenicians and Romans, as attested by wrecks found in its underwater vicinity. The remodeling suffered has now been used for the berthing and mooring of boats, as a fish market and departure point for boats that make up the nearby archipelago of Cabrera. Cabrera is 7 nautical miles away.
Platja d’es Port can be reached by road easily. The private vehicle can be parked free a few meters from the beach and the nearest bus stop is about 25 meters away.
